Top News Trends is an attempt to answer the question: Why is that term on google trends?
We attempt to answer it by crowdsourcing from the collective widsom of twitter users.
How does it work?
- Google trends atom feed is checked regularly for new trends.
- Twitter is searched for these terms.
- Yahoo web services identify important terms from tweets (these are used as tags)
Improvements
- filter tweets better (some are clearly not relevant)
- group trends (often several words on google trends are the same news story, we should be able to group trends together)
- pull data from other news sites (tweeter is the only place for later breaking news, suggestions for other places to pull from are welcome)
